Some of you have heard about this book already and some of you have travelled to Granada to meet some of the makers. For those of you that would like to go someday but think you won't, this book is for you. The book is a nicely put together chronicle of the recent history of makers in Granada. Photos of the makers and their guitars, articles by musicologists and guitarists, just the sort of book we all love but can't always justify buying. There is a nice full-page drawing of a Manuel de la Chica by Richard Bruné. There is a lot of information in the book but not a lot directly addressing your concern. Some of the makers have something to say on the subject but there is nothing in the way of a method. There is history, anecdotes, well-researched essays and the interviewing skills of Alberto Cuéllar really shine. This book is more of a great read for those who play or build or dream of doing either one. The fact that it has some interesting photos and is a beautiful book makes it that much more appealling. |

I looked it up on Amazon yesterday. They wanted 59$ for the book. Plus it appeared to be set in Spanish. But there's probably a bunch of pretty pictures. I don't know I think I probably looked up the wrong book. I had that feeling when I did it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Lonnie, it's bilingual - each essay and luthier profile is in Spanish and English. It's a little hard to say exactly what the book is for. I'm biased towards it as I build classical guitars, have lived in Granada for two very short periods of time, and have met some of the luthiers profiled and been in their shops (and walked by more of them). So to me it has a personal aspect. (As a total map fiend, I would have been glad to see a map of Granada city and Granada province indicating locations of luthiers' shops both present and historic to enrich the story line, but that's just me.) The book is not a luthier's how-to. it provides good background on the Marin/Bouchet connection, and David Gansz' essay on Granada's influence in the guitar world is a centerpiece, just as his article on the influence of Cadiz guitars was in "Inventing the American Guitar". |

Hi Guy, Please write to Stew-Mac or whoever you deal with and ask them to get it. On the one hand it has only very recently become available and it might not be advertised and on the other hand if Stew-Mac hasn't picked it up yet they should do so. It takes awhile for some companies to get things up on their webshops. Getting it from Amazon means a 30 day wait and I personally have taken my things off of Amazon because they are so abusive to publishers and authors.
